Prayer Intention for December 2001

For Peace

Lord, make me an instrument of Thy peace;
where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
and where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master,
grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
to be understood, as to understand;
to be loved, as to love;
for it is in giving that we receive,
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

Some Scripture Suggestions

 Jn 14: 27; Ps. 51: 10-12; Ps. 34: 14 ; Is 54: 10

Use the word peace as a sacred prayer word.  Sitting quietly but erect for 10 minutes, repeat the word continuously as an intention to consent to God’s presence and action within. Increase to 20 minutes per day if you can and make it a regular practice.

Meditate on the word peace.  What does it mean for you, your family, community, and nation?  Stay with the meditation until you have exhausted all possibilities.  Or choose the word as a key concept over month, year or lifetime.  From the Spiritual Alphabet: protect the earth's future by promoting peace every day.  Your small steps will link you with others who are combating violence in the world.
